The Cycle of Life

Natures rhythmic revolutionary cycle of activity is felt seasonally throughout a year. It can also be sensed within a day, a month and even our own lifetime. Each cycle has it’s own energetic resonance and can be summed up as Brith, Growth, Maturity, Decline and Death..

The Connection of Human Life and the Natural World

Daoism, is the native philosophy of China, dating back 5000 years, Five Element Acupuncture has its roots within its teachings. The Dao, translated as “The Path of Nature.” holds its fundamental belief that human life is not separate from our environment.

As integral creatures of this Earth, everything we do affects our natural surroundings. However it is missed by many, how much our natural world has a huge effect on us. Harmonious living with our surroundings is paramount not only for survival but for a balanced state of being.

The Cycle of Birth in Nature

Each season and its corresponding element has its own frequency, this is observed as groups of Qi (energy) that can be seen, smelt, felt and heard. We start the year with the Wood Element in Spring, with its vital fresh energy, this is the cycle of birth and new beginnings.

We observe this with the unfurling of verdant leaves, birds chirping, busy nesting, buds of vibrant new colour on plants, hatching of ducklings and the birthing of bouncy baby lambs. The unfolding of new life is everywhere to see, hear and feel.

The extending new light lifts us fully out of hibernation and its warming temperatures allow us to bask in the light of the suns rays. Our desire is now to be out, to move and feel our bodies again. We are reborn!

The Cycle of Birth in Human Life

This cycle is experienced with birth and the subsequent growth throughout childhood. The dynamic energy of children is a lot like the Spring; vibrant, shining and bountiful. We see children’s ease of fluid energetic mobility, always moving, learning, playing, and only stop when they sleep.

Walk through the park and you’ll hear them, shout, squeal and giggle before you even set eyes on them. Children are variable in mood too, a mixed bag of emotions, tears to tantrums, then love to laughing, sometimes all experienced at once.

Childlike Energy in Spring

Our beings are invigorated with Springs rebirthing. We may feel more childlike, more energised to move, play and create. We might feel a sense of optimism and hope as we enter the beginning of the cyclical year, maybe more so now as restrictions relax further. We are able to make plans, travel, stretch our minds and bodies in order to grow and develop ourselves.

Overcoming Hurdles

Obstacles, complications and hurdles are part of life’s inevitable journey. Like children and new buds, bound by restrictions until fully developed, we may incur such blocks. It’s here we need the supple flexibility of the child to mitigate such circumstances.

If we become too dry and brittle we will snap and lose life. If we are able to bend and stay fluid we grow, and learn something about our ourselves or our situation.

Channel Springs Childlike Energy

Unfurl and unfold, move, stay fluid and curious, play and allow for creativity, use your voice fully, hatch a plan, put that plan into action, learn something new, bring new ideas to life, rebirth.. Stay in harmony with this season, for a supreme state of being.

Attune to Energies of Birth, Spring and the Wood Element

Beginners mind, can encourage a lithe energetic flow. Stay curious, ask why and they why again, the next time you feel stuck or blocked.

Childlike inquiry, can help us grow, develop and understand the world we live in. Notice if you encounter childlike tantrums and tears when life doesn’t go your way. Are you feeling brittle and fixed?

Acupuncture is one way to help clear imbalances such as regular rage filled outbursts, anger and frustration. An energetic block is likely, more importantly though, it shows an energetic misalignment, which treatment can resolve.

Movement in terms of brisk walking, running, hiking or dynamic yoga can help release irritations. Its also a joy to reconnect ourselves to our muscular energy in our bodies, move with childlike joy.

Stay fluid with restorative yin yoga, meditation and plentiful rest. Replenishing our sources will keep mind and body limber and nimble.

Express lingering frustrations, like a child might, when they want to play with their favourite toy, be feed or gain your undivided attention.

Play, use your creativity to express you complaint, by writing, painting, drawing, dancing, singing. Release to your creative child within and come to terms with the hurdles that are present in your life.

Stay away from strong energetic stimulants such as alcohol, coffee and recreational drugs as they only dry us out further leaving us rigid and inflexible.

Move towards much water, fresh air and green space. In Spring we eat light, with plenty of green foods and citrus for supporting and cleansing the Liver and Gallbladder, the organs of the Wood Element..
