Feeling Disconnected?

Lacking Connection

How important is connection to you? I know for myself it’s vital to feel connected. When my energetics are out of balance I can quite quickly feel aimless, inert and unable to feel much at all. Feeling disconnected can show up at work, with family and friendships and most of all deeply inside, a deadness to the soul that makes everything a bit meh!

Feeling Grief

Our emotional health can be really affected when we are feeling disconnected. A sadness can prevail, leaving us empty and lonely, with a sprinkling of what’s the point. When I am lacking connection to myself and my surroundings I often start searching, looking for something external to fill me up,

Lacking connection sits in Grief. This can arrive as a sense that something is missing or wishing for something better. When this happens to me I am not able to fully connect to myself and my life around me.

Grief is difficult to feel, I’ve had many occasions where I haven’t allowed myself to feel the grief in question, this maybe as big as a loss of a loved one or as small as a regret for a missed opportunity.

What you resist persists, so the saying goes so succumbing to difficult feelings such as grief, will allow for transformation. Every emotion needs its time of processing, for us to let go and come to acceptance. If you find yourself wishing, missing, disappointed or in regret, you are experiencing a type of grief. Not acknowledging your grief creates a greater sense of separation and physical discomfort, which invites the distancing of disconnection.

Physical Discomfort

When I was feeling my most disconnected my shoulders and upper back were tight, I was irritable and tired, I had tightness in my chest, I kept sighing and couldn’t quite take in a deep breathe, my bowels were sluggish and my period was heavy and long. My skin was dry and the light in my eyes had dimmed, particular lines on my face were deeper and darker showing signs of emotional blockage.

These physical symptoms are commonly experienced by many, I didn’t feel like myself and my face was showing organ distress and emotional challenges.

Feeling connected and in acceptance of what is, resonates with the Metal element and the organs of the lungs and large intestines. It was this elemental imbalance that was causing the disconnection, effecting both my emotional and physical health.

Sensitive questioning into what was at the root of my disconnection, changed my energy immediately, I didn’t realise there was a heavy sorrow I was burdening. The simple act of acknowledging and feeling it completely changed my physical and emotional body. A few days later I received acupuncture restoring a deeper connection to my mind and body, relieving all symptoms.

Lacking in Autumn

The Metal element also resonates with the Autumn season, it’s this time of year that grief and disconnection can really be felt. The magic of entering each season, allows us to really explore and process any stuck or repressed emotions. If you are feeling particularly detached or isolated this autumn then use this season to really reflect on the root of what you might be missing or wishing for.

If this feels scary or overwhelming then finding the right support will help you reconnect you back to yourself

Top Tip to Reconnect

Physical exertion in nature. Moving your body with strenuous walks, hiking up hill or going for a short run will work on building the energy of the lungs, supporting the mind and body via the metal element. The deeper the exhale gives way for a deeper inhale, clearing out the old stale air in exchange for fresh new oxygen (energy). The movement and deeper breathing especially in nature brings you back into your body immediately and connection is restablished.

Having the senses awaken in nature also establishes reconnection, with light, wind, rain or heat and all the smells, is another way to bring you back to presence, back into the here and now. Being in the natural world restores a wider sense of connection and leads us closer the wondrous feelings of awe. Awe lifts our spirits and puts us in touch with something much deeper than ourselves, a sense of presence and being apart of something bigger. It’s especially pertinent at this time of year to move your body in nature and be supported by the elemental connection to the season.
