Be Your Own Spark

Be Your Own Spark This Winter

As winter draws in I find that keeping my spirits lifted is a priority. This time of year resonates with the Metal and Water elements, both have unforgiving qualities that can be harsh and overwhelming. Connecting to my Fire element keeps my spark alive, allowing my fire to burn brightly in the wintery gloom.

Drawing in your Wood and Fire elements is a common theme at this time of year, that’s why we tend to be drawn to Christmas trees, fairy lights and fireplaces during the drizzly winter months. They create the much needed warmth and light to fill our hearts with joy.

Our Fire element resonates with our Heart, so any energetic that provides a lift, a warmth or expansion will feed your body what it most needs at this time of year. Below are some ideas on keeping your spark alive.

Kindness - Blood - Love - Activity - Decorate

  • Kindness

Acts of generosity and kindness open the heart and nourish our Fire. Support, volunteer, help friends, family and services in your community to flicker the flames of fire in your heart but also make others feel that special glow of gratitude too.

  • Blood

Feeling low in mood, difficulty concentrating and extremely fatigued. Have you checked your bloods with your GP? Being low in iron or B6/B12 can flood your Fire. Acupuncture and Face Reading can identify signs of deficiency and treat accordingly to support your Blood and Heart energetics.

  • Love

Healing the heart keeps our spark alive. An open and warm heart nourishes our blood and our fire energy. Past hurt can make this hard to do so, however try this healing practice for softening the heart.

“To begin this practice, make yourself comfortable, seated or lying down, perhaps bring your hand to the centre of your chest. Bring to mind someone who is easy to love, someone who you have an uncomplicated relationship with. This could be family member, a child, a friend, or a pet. Let this being come into mind.

As you imagine them, notice the smile they give when spending time with you, sense their unconditional love that radiates from every fibre of their being.

Notice how you are feeling inside. Maybe you feel bodily warmth, a smile, or a sense of expansiveness, notice how this feels at the area of the heart? This is the spark of loving-kindness. Stop here, revel and enjoy your flickering flames of loving-kindness.

  • Activity

You never feel worse after going for a walk, so the saying goes. Feeling grim and heavy and not left the house in days? Hiking, running or going for a long walk will bring back your spark. Connecting to nature in all its elements will warm your cheeks and your heart. Add in a little rain, hail or snow and feel invigorated and alive too.

  • Decorate

Wood feeds the Fire, so adding Woody elements in your home such as plant life like the faithful Christmas tree, perhaps decorate with mistletoe, holly and berries. For fiery elements add fairy lights, lamps. candles and if you’re lucky enough light the fire. Light in the darkest of times keeps our spark alive.

Warm Your Spirit So You Can Glow Until Spring.
